PRINCE GEORGE – Once again the University of Northern BC has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.

The university has been the recipient of this honour for seven straight years by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

UNBC is one of eight universities included on the list this year and is the only employer in Northern B.C. to earn the recognition.

“The ethos of sustainability permeates our campuses as our passionate faculty, students and staff collaborate every day to discover green solutions and explore environmentally friendly opportunities,” says UNBC President Dr. Daniel Weeks.

UNBC is recognized for its many environmental initiatives including a campus-wide composting program, electric car charging stations on campus, discounted parking rates for employees who car-pool, providing grants to green activities and research projects and reducing the university’s reliance on natural gas by heating most of the Prince George campus with bioenergy and wood pellet plants.
