Seniors Tea Sees Huge Numbers

PRINCE GEORGE – For the past 11 years, MLA Shirley Bond has hosted a tea for seniors in the community.

It has grown over those years from 80 attendees to 900 today.

“I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in this community. I love where we live. My parents, when they were here, were well cared for. They participated in many organizations and I know that, for them, Christmas celebrations with their peer group were really important. So it’s a way that I can give back to this community.”

She says the tea is one of the premier events for seniors in the community. 

“Our phone starts ringing in August, usually, where seniors are calling in and asking for the date so they can put it on their calendar,” she said. “It’s very rewarding. I’m grateful to the volunteers that help me make it happen.”

But it means the event has reached capacity at the Conference and Civic Centre. But Bond says she’ll cross that bridge when she gets to it.
