Canfor Extends Curtailment

PRINCE GEORGE — Canfor is extending its temporary curtailment at sawmills in B.C. and will be reducing operating hours at some sawmills throughout the first quarter of next year.

In a prepared statement, Canfor said: “This decision is due to a continuing decline in lumber prices, in addition to high log costs and log supply constraints.”

The reduction is expected to reduce Canfor’s production output by an additional 55 million board feet in the first quarter of 2019.

The additional days of downtime at its Prince George operation will be January 2, 3 and 4. All sawmills are scheduled to resume production on January 7, 2019.
