100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. β€” RCMP in 100 Mile House have stood down a major crimes investigation after being called to a suspicious death this week.

Police say the death may have been caused by an animal.

North District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says a man was found dead Wednesday afternoon at about 3:25 p.m.

β€œOne Hundred Mile House RCMP, along with the B.C. Ambulance Service and the Conservation Officer (Service) attended to a reported suspicious death along Stokes Road in 100 Mile House. Upon arrival, a male had been located deceased outside the residence.”

While a major crimes investigation was launched immediately after the body was found, the body had been damaged by animals.

With help from conservation officers, investigators have determined there is no risk to the public associated with the event. Conservation officers are working to identify possible animals who were involved.

Officers with the 100 Mile House RCMP will support the B.C. Coroners Service as they look into the death.

Saunderson says investigators have not made a firm identification, but have notified family members of the man associated with the Stokes Road home and are keeping them apprised.
