Wildmare Creek fire classified as ‘being held’

CHETWYND — Good news from the BC Wildfire Service regarding the Wildmare Creek fire just south of Chetwynd.

As of 3 p.m. Friday afternoon (April 26), the fire is now classified as “being held.” The BC Wildfire Service says that means under the current weather conditions and resources assigned to the fire, it is not expected to expand any further.

The fire is currently mapped at 76 hectares in size and led to an evacuation order which was downgraded to an alert. The alert has now been lifted as well.

The suspected human-caused wildfire broke out Wednesday afternoon.
