“Election Day” at Duchess
PRINCE GEORGE – Hot on the heels of an all-candidates forum last week, students at Duchess Park Secondary School have taken their venture to the next level.
One after one, the students lined up to cast a ballot in the Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding. That’s the riding the school is situated in.
Aside from the fact it was a mock election, everything from the ballots to the ballot boxes were identical to what any voter will see on October 21st.
“They don’t teach you how in school and it’s a big thing,” explains Tula Moore, one of two students who organized the event. “And it’s really important and it affects everyone. So if you do it now, you learn how so when you’re old enough, it’s not a big scary thing and more people will do it if they learn when they’re younger.”
