PRINCE GEORGE— The Cougars are in Spokane preparing for a tough back to back against the Chiefs on Friday and then the league leaders, the Everett Silvertips on Saturday.

The team will have to put a much better effort forward than they did this past weekend dropping two straight against Kelowna and Kamloops, 6-3 a piece.

“We’re not happy with how the last week went at all. It was a tough weekend for us. We had a lot of guys that didn’t play up to par and a lot of sickness and stuff going around,” said Cougars General Manager and Head Coach Mark Lamb.

On the positive side, Los Angeles Kings draft pick, Koehn Ziemmer snapped his nine game goalless drought in their loss on Saturday.

“Just to get out of the way I mean, (I was) snake bitten for for nine games there. Haven’t really had to go through that in my career. Just a little bit of adversity, but finally get through that and just get out of the way and get back to my game,’ said Ziemmer on ending his longest drought as a Prince George Cougar.

This upcoming weekend, they start off with the Chiefs, who just acquired Andrew Cristall, who leads the entire league with 72 points, with the team second in the league standings.

“Look at what we’re up against , I think it’s great. We haven’t played a top team like that. They made some moves. They got (Andrew) Cristall. They had a big game. It’s a lot of publicity that he lit it up. So I can’t wait for it,” said Lamb on the Cougars match against the Chiefs.

The games won’t get any easier as the weekend roles along as they face the league leading Everett Silvertips, where they haven’t won on the road at since 2016.

“It’s going to be a real test for us. It’s going to really show us where our team’s at and what we can do, but I think they’re very beatable. They’ve got a lot of skill but so do we,” said Ziemmer.
