PRINCE GEORGE—On Monday, January 20, the Prince George RCMP located and arrested two known offenders after they fled from the police.

The events began just before 11:00 a.m. Frontline Police officers were on a routine patrol of the Hart Highway. When they were near Houghtaling Road they saw a pick-up committing several motor vehicle infraction. Police tried to initiate a traffic stop but the pick-up sped off, despite the icy road conditions.

RCMP officers did not pursue the vehicle, instead they patrolled areas where they last observed the pick-up traveling. A short time later, the vehicle was located again. Frontline officers successfully deployed a spike belt and the pick-up crashed into a snow bank while trying to evade the police.

The driver and passenger were arrested for multiple offenses. A search of the occupants and the vehicle located suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia as well as a loaded firearm and ammunition. The drugs and firearms were seized for analysis.

“Both suspects were subsequently released, pending the laboratory results of evidence seized, which is a standard practice when evidence requires testing by outside partner agencies,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
