Police charge one man in connection with Dawson Creek Shooting

NORTHERN B.C.— The B.C. Prosecution Service have approved charges for a shooting that took place in Dawson Creek on January 19.

Nolan Douglas Schmidt has been charged with second degree murder after a man was found dead on 102nd Avenue. The second individual that police located at a nearby hotel is still in the hospital recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators report that the attack was not random and those involved know each other.

“The surge of resources that supported the investigation contributed to an arrest and subsequent charge approval. Additional charges may be possible if supported by further evidence as the investigation moves forward,” said Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of E Division Major Crime.

Investigators add that they making progress on other investigations in Dawson Creek and will welcome any information provided by the public. If you have a tip on the weekend shooting or any other investigation you can contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784-3700.

Schmidt remains in custody pending the results of his court hear on January 27.
