PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George RCMP responded to an incident on the 600-block of Ahbau Street Thursday evening.

Mounties say they were called to a home in the area for a wellbeing check just after 5:30 p.m.

“Once at the residence, police quickly learned that one person had barricaded themselves in a room in the house and it was believed that threats involving a firearm were made,” says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

“The individual did not follow police commands to exit the home so police set up containment until further resources could attend. The North District Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.”

She says a short time later one man exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

“The investigation is still in its earliest stages, but there is currently no indication there is any risk to the general public resulting from this incident. Due to the nature of the incident and the known history of those residing at that location, police officers contained the residence and remain on scene until they obtain a search warrant for the home,” says Cst. Jenna Moore, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
