Smoky skies still linger over Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE — Smoky skies have returned to the Prince George area for a second day, after an increase in wildfires across BC over the Labour Day long weekend.
Environment Canada says that wildfire smoke will impact the area over the next 24 to 48 hours, while the BC Wildfire Service notes that higher smoke concentrations are anticipated to reduce fire behaviour in some regions as daytime heating is limited by the smoke.
There are currently around 155 active wildfires in B.C., 59 of those are considered out of control. The wildfire service says the heavy smoke in town is the result of a mixture of fires – including fires from the Cariboo Fire Centre and even the Northwest Territories.
People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
