Prince George RCMP arrest suspect in series of violent store robberies

PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George RCMP have arrested one suspect in connection with a series of violent robberies targeting vape and cannabis stores across the city over the past two weeks.

Police announced Wednesday that investigators identified and arrested a suspect on Tuesday following an extensive investigation into four robberies that occurred between September 6 and September 19.

According to RCMP, officers also executed a search warrant at a residence after the arrest, leading to the seizure of additional evidence expected to support upcoming charges.

“We were able to identify one of the suspects, have arrested that person and conducted a search warrant at a residence that has led to more evidence to support upcoming charges,” said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Craig Douglass.

Investigators believe a group of several individuals was responsible for the robberies, which targeted vape and cannabis retailers on Massey Drive, Westwood Drive and Strathcona Avenue.

Police say weapons were used in each incident. Bear spray was deployed in at least two of the robberies, while a knife was used in one case and an axe was used in another.

The investigation began after a robbery on September 6 and expanded as additional incidents occurred over the following two weeks. Although several victims required treatment after being exposed to bear spray, no serious injuries were reported.

Douglass said considerable investigative work led to the arrest, but police are still trying to identify and locate other suspects involved.

Police say the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible.
