PRINCE GEORGE – The First Nations LNG Alliance has gained a new member. Clifford White (Nees Ma’Outa), chief of the Gitxaala Nation, has joined the board of directors.

The First Nations LNG Alliance is a collective of First Nations who participate and support sustainable and responsible LNG development in the province.

“Chief Clifford has been a leader in many ways for many decades,” says Karen Ogen-Toews, CEO of the First Nations LNG Alliance. “He brings to us not just experience but also a strong voice for Indigenous people and Indigenous interests in BC.”

Chief White’s work includes being on the Tsimshian Roundtable as co-chair, which is a partnership of the six Tsimshian First Nations and LNG proponents in northwest BC. He’s worked with the government on sustainability management on the north coast, been consulted on sustainable aquaculture and on Indigenous apprenticeships on public infrastructure projects.

White has had more than 10 years of involvement with the First Nations Court in New Westminster and BC’s Aboriginal Family Healing Court project, which is a pilot program that deals with Indigenous children and families. He’s also been on the First Nations Advisory Committee for the province, worked with the Industry Training Authority and trades unions on Indigenous workforce development.

The Gitxaala Nation is made up of 2,000 people, who live in the area that is now Kitkatla on Dolphin Island, southwest of Prince Rupert.
