Kodiaks to compete in 2026 BCFC season despite recent off-field turmoil
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Kodiaks Football Club will take the field this summer, despite recent off-field turmoil that’s plagued the franchise over the past several months.
In a statement released Saturday (April 11) afternoon, the team says it is “proud to confirm” that it will compete in the 2026 British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) season, following formal confirmation from the league.
“The new board, our volunteers, and supporters have put in an incredible amount of work to get us to this point,” Nicolas Fricke, the president of the Prince George Kodiaks, said in the statement. “The BCFC’s approval confirms that the Kodiaks are on the right track and ready to move forward. We’re excited to build something sustainable for our athletes and our community.”
The Kodiaks underwent an “organizational restructuring” in March after a number of previous board members stepped aside. The team’s annual general meeting in March also painted a bleak financial picture, but there was also optimism that a solution would be found to keep the team on the field.
